We have optioned the rights to the book, Black Valour: The South African Native Labour Contingent, 1916-1918 and the sinking of the ‘Mendi’
The author Norman Clothier did extensive research over several years about the South African Native Labour Contingent and the sinking of the Mendi. We are delighted to have such a powerful tool for the telling of this story. Clothier’s invaluable research covers not only the terms of the Contingent, but also various entries, reports and affidavits of those who not only served in the Contingent, but also who survived the disaster at sea on 21st of February 1917.
